Why do we recommend RedHat Linux?
The following apply to all Linux versions:
- It's a solid platform.
- It's free.
- It's always being improved.
The following are RedHat specific:
- Both Sendmail and Apache come well configured for use as a web server,
including good default settings and support for Virtusertable (Sendmail),
Mod_Perl and Mod_Rewrite (Apache).
- A DNS server is easy to add if you want to support username.yourdomain.com
in CommunityWeaver.
- It's very easy to upgrade components as needed.
- If you need/want to install programs written in C, there is almost always
a pre-compiled binary version for RedHat Linux.
- Most books on Linux focus on RedHat so it's easy to learn.
- All standard modules are already installed 'out of the box'.
